What is a Category 1 water damage?

12/6/2017 (Permalink)

Category 1 - This category is also known as the “clean water” damage.

If you home has suffered a Category 1 water loss then the source of the problem uses clean water. Examples of a clean water source would be your water heater or broken pipe.

Cleanup of a Category 1 water damage is the least invasive and least time consuming.

Restoration technicians will use either a truck mounted extractor or a portable extractor to remove the water from carpets and pads. Some will even lift the carpet out of the way and remove the pad all together since it acts as a sponge.
The next step will be to remove your baseboards and drill holes about 16 inches apart to provide airflow behind the drywall. These will be covered up by the baseboards when finished.
Lastly, air movers and dehumidifiers are arranged in a pattern that will increase evaporation and dehumidification.
